There is nothing the nearness of Christ cannot overcome

Every time we turn on the news, our hearts are met with the reality of brokenness. The weight of it all can make us wonder where hope is to be found.

But the truth is, our hope has never rested in the stability of this world. Our hope is anchored in the One who overcame the world. Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).

That doesn’t mean we have to hide how we feel. It’s okay to be sad, angry, frustrated, or weary as grief wells up in us. God does not dismiss our emotions—He welcomes them. He wept at Lazarus’ tomb. He understands our pain, and He meets us in it.

We are free to feel the heaviness of loss, but we do not grieve as those without hope. Our tears remind us that we are in a battle not just of flesh and blood, but of spiritual warfare that seeks to steal our peace and rob us of joy. Yet even here, Christ reigns. His nearness is our shield, and His Spirit is our comfort.

While kingdoms rise and fall, His kingdom is eternal. While fear grips the hearts of many, His perfect love drives out fear. While death and destruction make their mark, the cross still speaks louder—reminding us that death has been swallowed up in victory.

In moments of uncertainty, we are invited to abide. Abide in His Word. Abide in His presence. Abide in the truth that nothing can separate us from His love. The nearness of Christ is enough for every storm, every war, every heartbreak, and every unknown.

So today, lift your eyes. Don’t let the headlines be the loudest voice in your life. Let the voice of the Living God remind you: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5).

Even in the chaos, we can rest. Even in the pain, we have peace. Even in the darkest valleys, we have a Shepherd who walks with us.
