God is in the Unexpected

Noah was in his early 20s, farming in the middle of nowhere in Australia. Like, nowhere. The kind of place where weeks could go by without seeing another human. Just you, the sun, the land—and a few friendly ravens you start to name just to keep your sanity.
He was there because one night God woke him up and simply said, “Go to Australia.” The next morning, he called his mom to share the crazy prompting—and she said, “You’re not going to believe this. A man named Stretch just called… he’s looking for someone to help him on his farm.”
So Noah went. And in between long days on the farm, he’d get the occasional break and head into Melbourne just to be around people. One day he sat in a park with some KFC (a little taste of home) when a large, intimidating aboriginal gang walked into the park. Loud. Covered in tattoos. People were moving out of their way.
Noah sat still—chicken in hand—when he felt it.
That nudge.
“Go over there.”
…Excuse me, God? I think I’m good here with my drumstick.
Again.
“Go.”
So Noah struck a deal with God. “If there’s no open seat over there, then I must’ve heard You wrong.”
He walked by—and of course, there was one open seat. Right in the middle of the group.
He sat down, totally unsure of why God had brought him there. Until he looked up and locked eyes with the oldest man in the group.
The man stared, stood, and walked over to Noah—then sat beside him in silence.
Then, softly, “So, what are you doing?”
Noah laughed. “Just needed a place to sit. What about you?”
The man replied, “One of our guys got arrested. We’re trying to bail him out, but it’s $120.”
Without even thinking, Noah counted out $120 and handed it over.
The man whistled. Someone ran off to bail their friend out.
And then... they talked.
For five or six hours, they talked about Jesus.
This man—tattoos, tough exterior, “gang leader” vibes—shared his story. How he found God. How he tries to guide these young guys. How he still believes, still prays, still trusts that God hasn’t given up on them.
And Noah? He sat there, floored.
Because he thought he was bringing Jesus.
But Jesus was already there.
Before they said goodbye, the man told Noah, “In my culture, when you meet a friend, you exchange gifts. I don’t have much to give... but I want you to have this.”
He took off his necklace—his reminder that God is always watching and protecting him—and placed it in Noah’s hand.
Noah, caught off guard, took off the brand new shirt he had just bought and gave it to the man.
They hugged. Promised to see each other in heaven.
And walked away forever changed.
The necklace he gave Noah? It's pictured here in this post.
You never know where Jesus will show up.
In the middle of a gang.
On a dusty farm.
On a random park bench with cold KFC.
God is not afraid of rough edges. He doesn’t need the setting to be polished or the people to be perfect.
He’s already there.
All we have to do is say yes to the nudge.
