As we have mentioned a few times, we are planning to host two retreats in 2019, both at the Hermit Basin Christian Conference Center in Westcliffe, Colorado. We have never held retreats at this facility before, and Westcliffe is not as easily accessible for those of you coming from out of town as something closer to Denver or Colorado Springs, but all we can do is try this to see if we all like it. Just be sure to check a map before you say you want to come! I believe you will need a car due to Westcliffe’s being off the beaten path.
The rooms appear to be very nice, all with 2 queen beds and some with additional bunkbeds. No one needs to sleep in a bunkbed unless you want more than 4 in your room. All rooms have private full bathrooms. If you want to check it out online, see hermitbasin.com The altitude is said to be 9,000 feet, lower than some of the other retreat centers we have used.
Tim Lester, Chad Salyn, and Noah Wells are at this point in time all planning to speak at the retreats, although for the women’s retreat, which we plan to run at the same time as the men’s retreat, we will have women speakers as usual, unless we combine the retreats for the evening sessions.
The first weekend will be for the women’s and men’s retreats and will begin with supper Friday, September 27, 2019, and end after breakfast on Monday, September 30. This will give travelers a full day to arrive or return home before checking in (not before 4) on Friday and departing the rooms by 10 on Monday morning.
The second weekend will be a couples’ retreat, so of course we will put just one couple in each room. This retreat will begin with supper on Thursday, October 3rd, 2019, and end just after breakfast on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Attendance at the men’s or women’s retreat will cost $265 per person, and to hold a spot at the retreat, $65 of that is required as a deposit. Couples planning to go to the October retreat will pay $485, $65 of which is due as a deposit at registration. The costs include sleeping quarters for the three nights and all meals. Free time both afternoons of the full days will be for hiking, fishing, utilizing the pool, or going to Westcliffe.
