Day 212 - One and Yet Many
Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one!
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness . . .”
God is One and yet He is many. “The Lord thy God is One,” and yet, “Let Us make man.” We are made in His image; therefore we can gain understanding into Him by looking at ourselves. Draw a circle that represents you; you are one. Yet in that circle are mind, will, emotions, body, and heart. As we look at all the words in the circle, we discover that we are also many.
These many elements do not often agree. We are in chaos and cannot say, “Let us do” anything. Mind is not in agreement with emotions, body wars with mind, and will keeps eating sugar when it knows body will suffer. We are in conflict.
Now draw another circle that represents God. The Lord is One. In the circle are His judgments, His names, His provision, His love, His will, His Wisdom, and His Word (Jesus). They all agree perfectly; they are One. Do you believe that His judgments and His love agree? He gives the death sentence for certain behaviors in the Old Testament; is that love? We too often think of judgment as punishment. It is not. Sin and punishment are one and the same.
Punishment happens at the very moment sin occurs. Judgment is God with an IQ of 999 trillion+ telling us how to make the best of a bad situation. Sin is not a created thing but a result of natural created things acting in an unnatural way. A mule is not a created being but the result of the coming together of two created beings, a horse and a donkey.
Death will not change the nature of the mule, but it will take the reality of a mule out of sight, in which case the thought of making more mules is not overtly present. Judgments take a result out of sight so the sin is not overtly present and covertly encouraged. Judgments agree with love and do what is best for us.
