This is the latest e-mail from Beryl!

Hi Betty! I have just heard some news and have to share it with you. I told you that Phil’s boss’s house went underwater – well, it should have as ones on higher ground than his did, but his didn’t. At the back of his house was a little patch of sugarcane. Why, I don’t know as no one grows sugar in that area and so it wouldn’t have been there to be harvested. Maybe he didn’t even plant it, it was possibly there when he bought the house. I don’t know. He didn’t like it there and always meant to get rid of it but somehow didn’t.

You can now see where the water hit this stand of cane and swirled around it, thus saving the house. Surely, that has to be a God thing! He is not going to remove the sugar cane now!

I also rang my sister-in-law this morning. She said that her sister and husband live at Withcott which is just below the Toowooba range. Her sister was at work in T’ba but her husband Rodney was home. He was in their house, and the water rushed all around and underneath taking everything there with it. The house creaked and groaned a bit but withtood the torrent. The chicken coop and chickens have all gone. The house next door just collapsed and the lady was killed. Wow, how close was that for Rodney. He said it all happened so quickly. Cheers, Beryl
